Today we have another way to add some sweetness to your loved ones’ next breakfast, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
This is basically homemade strawberry “jam,” like I used to make with my mom when I was little.
- 5 good-sized frozen strawberries
- 1/2 cup water
- Sweetener to taste
1. Place the water and 5 frozen strawberries in a small pot. Bring to a boil.
2. Reduce to a simmer, and stir occasionally as the fruit thaws and softens. It only takes five to ten minutes. Press the strawberries with a metal spoon or fork to break them up as they cook. Make it as smooth or as fruit chunky as you like.
3. Once the liquid begins to look thicker, add the sweetener as desired. For a really “jammy” flavor, add 2 Tablespoons of granulated sugar and stir well. Cook for about one minute longer.
This is really easy to prepare at the same time as you are making pancakes, french toast or waffles.
Spread the yummy goodness, or store in the fridge for up to two days.
Also works well with a handful of frozen mixed berries or blueberries.
